Demystifying Makeup Trends
Makeup trends are always changing, and keeping up can be tough! In this article we explore the difference between baking and strobing, and how you can achieve these looks at home.
What is Baking?
No, we aren't talking about brownies! Baking is a technique where you apply a thick layer of translucent powder over your concealer (usually under the eyes, down the nose, and on the chin). You leave it to "bake" for 5-10 minutes. The heat from your face sets the foundation and concealer, creating a flawless, crease-free, matte finish. It's great for oily skin and long events.
What is Strobing?
Strobing is basically extreme highlighting. Instead of contouring with dark shades, you only use illuminating products on the high points of your face where light naturally hits (cheekbones, brow bone, tip of the nose, cupid's bow). It creates a dewy, youthful, glowing complexion.
Which Should You Use?
If you have oily skin and want a flawless matte look, try baking. If you have dry skin and want a fresh, glowing look, strobing is your best friend. Be sure to check out our local beauty brand recommendations to find the best highlighters in SA!
